Properties and Characteristics

Physical Properties: Myclobutanil is a white needle – like crystal with a melting point of 68 – 69 ºC and a boiling point of 202 – 208 ºC1. It is slightly soluble in water, with a solubility of 142 mg/L at 25 ºC4.
Chemical Properties: It belongs to the triazole class of fungicides. Its chemical structure enables it to inhibit the demethylation step in the ergosterol biosynthesis pathway of fungi, thereby disrupting the integrity of the fungal cell membrane and achieving fungicidal effects5.

Mode of Action

Systemic Absorption: As a systemic fungicide, myclobutanil can be absorbed by plants through roots or foliage and translocated acropetally within the plant’s vascular system, mainly through the xylem2. This allows it to reach new growth areas of the plant, providing protection and treatment against fungal infections2.
Inhibition of Ergosterol Biosynthesis: Myclobutanil inhibits the enzyme lanosterol 14α – demethylase in fungi, interfering with the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol2. The resulting deficiency of ergosterol leads to abnormal fungal cell membranes, increased permeability, leakage of cellular components, and ultimately the death of fungal cells2.
